“If you’ll look just up the block to 120 North Main, you’ll see the longtime home of the Carter-Ivy Hardware Company—one of Weatherford’s most enduring family businesses. The store opened in 1902, rising from the ashes of the J. R. Lewis Company, which burned in the great fire of May 1901.

An early partner, Mr. Ivy, soon sold his share to T. S. Carter and moved on, but the Carter name stayed planted here for more than a century. Three generations—Robert Grady Carter, Robert Samuel Carter, and Robert Randall Carter—kept the doors open and the shelves stocked with the kinds of things you simply couldn’t find anywhere else.

For over 100 years, if Weatherford needed it, Carter-Ivy had it—or they’d figure out how to get it. It became the town’s go-to spot for the odd, the rare, and the ‘I-didn’t-know-anyone-still-sold-this’ items. More than a hardware store, it was a Main Street anchor, a family legacy, and a place where half the town’s projects probably began.”
