King Home

1803 Upper Denton Road

This native rock home was one of the two built in the vicinity by Hollis Abner King before 1920.  The second home no longer exists. Considered “an old bachelor”, he married Lona Jane Wampler, daughter of a neighbor, when he was 26 and she was 23. They had three children.  Mr. King farmed, maintained a dairy, and operated a gravel pit on the land.  Much of the gravel found its way to Parker County and Weatherford roadways.  Mr. King sold the land and business to a Mr. Holmes in 1947. Mr. Holmes contracted with Mr. Homer Neely to operate the business and to live in the home.  In 1952, Mr. Neely and his wife Beulah purchased the land and business.
