Howard Martin Home

111 Couts Street

Built sometime before 1900, this home was occupied by Howard Martin, his wife Saluda (Luda) Ann, their six children, and Mrs. Martin’s mother Felicia Jane (Turnbow) Marks.  Mr. Martin was prominent Weatherford attorney and brother of Preston Martin, father of Mary Martin.  Mr. Howard Martin was appointed Parker County Attorney and went on to win two elections afterwards.  During Governor S.W.T. Lanham’s first term (1902- 1904), he appointed Mr. Martin to the position of Assistant Attorney General to represent the State before the Court of Criminals Appeals.  He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias, an organization which helped support the Pythian home for windows and orphans.
